Concept

The inspiration for the project is the grandmother’s “biscuit” boxes, in which, of course, there are no biscuits, but sewing supplies. This is what I also associate with Mila’s album: nostalgia, Bulgarianness, home.

The Problem

The artist, Mila Robert, infamously breaks the boundaries of modern music in Bulgaria, mixing traditional pop and pop folk with modern music themes in an era in which both geres are in a heated rivalry. With this music album, I try to further push the concept presented in the album.

The Bulgarian music industry lacks in the product design aspect, not recognizing the potential in giving fans physical memorabilia to expand their musical experience. A package can carry in itself storytelling and push the creative direction more firmly.

Context

During the war, people were encouraged to reuse tin boxes and all supplies available.

Biscuits were often sold loose in paper bags back then and tins were not very common – until 1966 when companies made their 'high-quality' tins to keep cookies fresh.

"It was resealable and reusable for storing in general, and some people used it simply as a bowl to serve from."

Concept

Fan project - album box packaging design for ATEEZ, a Korean music group founded in 2019. ATEEZ’s identity is rooted in visual media. However, one thing they fall a bit short on is the packaging design. This re-design of their EP Golden Hour Pt. 4 aims to expand the storytelling of the album and deepen the experience of consumer and their semiotic connection with the album.

Methodology

In researching the the initial elements, I focused on representing the different dimensions and layers in ATEEZ's lore. Since ATEEZ already had a lot of visual content for the release, all that was left to do is combine it into a product that adequately tells the story and conveys the message of the album. Everything is first sculpted on Cinema4D and then textured using Photoshop. The animation was done entirely on Cinema4D and the sound and final render were done on After Effects.

Context

ATEEZ stands out for having a strong, story-driven identity. Their music, videos, and performances all connect to a pirate-themed universe about freedom and rebellion, with recurring symbols and alter egos that expand their lore. Instead of just doing concepts, they build a continuous narrative, which makes their sound, visuals, and stage presence feel like parts of the same cinematic world.

Zara Larson

Zara Larson

Concept

Fan project - album box packaging design of a makeup palette for Zara Larson. Inspired by Zara's new visual identity, I wanted to develop a project that would serve not only as an alternative way of music album packaging, but also as a standalone merchandise item. A big part of Larson's identity has been taken by her styling and makeup, with her unique and elaborate makeup looks done by Sophia Sinot going viral on social media. The package comes with a makeup palette with 14 shades, as well as two face gem sheets and an applicator. The album itself comes in the form of an USB, tying in nicely with her early 2000s inspired branding.

Methodology

After developing the concept, the focus was on designing the packaging elements like the box and palette design, as well as the USB, in Photoshop. After figuring out logistics like shape, colors and mechanism, I move to Cinema4D where I mode, texture and animate everything.

Zara Larsson, the 28-year-old Swedish singer-songwriter, has made a crazy comeback into pop culture. With the help of a trend and great strategic marketing, Larsson opened for Tate McRae on the US leg of her “Miss Possessive” Tour and built upon her  new fanbase by immediately touring her own album on the “Midnight Sun” Tour, cementing herself as an artist to watch.

Her rebrand consists of a summer neon pop aesthetic. The aesthetic can be seen in her music videos as well as her wardrobe, which has become saturated with bright colors and clear Y2K vibes. She also frequently uses imagery like butterflies, flowers, the ocean, and sunsets, which ties directly into the “Symphony” dolphin meme. Her music video for “Midnight Sun,” which features crashing waves, airbrushed t-shirts, and Larsson singing with the bright orange of the sunset behind her, effectively captures her aesthetic makeover.
