the idea of the concept pictures is to tell the story of a journey. that’s why I want to shoot 3 different batches in 3 locations, all with similar themes and slight differences

Julia is starting her journey in her cultural environment: sitting on a typical Persian rug, surrounded by items that connect her to her home(s). Chairs and other strictly “at home” items are crucial. The environment is empty: a field. The focus is Julia herself, and the lack of cultural identity in the space itself is intentional - Julia doesn’t know where she is in life and in the space. She’s uncertain about her position in the space - she’s sitting at the end of the rug, sometimes looking away from the items, which are positioned away from her.

Julia’s EP “Home Is Where the Heart Is” tells a story of a life’s journey to finding your place, even when that means leaving something behind. Julia’s journey is mental, and the weight of family, culture, and acceptance manifest themselves in hesitance, self-doubt, and desperation. In the song “will you”, Julia speaks to an invisible character that could be a single person, as well as a more arbitrary allegory of home and family.

Julia Jarabanda is a 21-year-old Syrian singer-songwriter based in Milan, Italy. Through a rough childhood marked by many difficult transitions, Julia began to develop an interest in making music. Through writing and creating, Julia shares her struggles with belonging, her complex relationship with love and herself, and her ongoing journey of life.
