Tempest
Ethel Cain
An experimentative video that serves as a song visualizer for Ethel Cain's song "Tempest". The project was realized using TouchDesigner.
"Tempest" is a song written and recorded by Hayden Anhedönia, under the pseudonym Ethel Cain. It was released through her own record label Daughters of Cain on August 8, 2025, as the ninth track on her second studio album, Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You
Named after a violent windstorm, "Tempest" is the only song on the record written from the perspective of Willoughby Tucker. As the tempest approaches Shady Grove, Tucker is abandoned by Ethel Cain, marking a turning point in their relationship. Tucker's biggest fear is the weather, something Cain failed to understand through her toughened projections of who she thought or needed him to be. In the lyrics, Tucker juxtaposes the way he and Cain choose to manifest their self loathing due to trauma, and questions whether she actually understands him, stating she could try to help him doing the things she does, but it wouldn't help because she can't truly help him as she's never truly looked at him for who he truly is or what he actually needs. According to Cain's 106th diary entry, which detailed the night the tornado swept Shady Grove, the storm took place on April 21, 1990.
